Traffic Grooming in Bidirectional

چکیده
6 We study the minimization of ADMs (Add-Drop Multiplexers) in optical WDM bidirectional 7 rings considering symmetric shortest path routing and all-to-all unitary requests. We precisely for8 mulate the problem in terms of graph decompositions, and state a general lower bound for all the 9 values of the grooming factor C and N, the size of the ring. We first study exhaustively the cases 10 C = 1, C = 2, and C = 3, providing improved lower bounds, optimal constructions for several 11 infinite families, as well as asymptotically optimal constructions and approximations. We then study 12 the case C > 3, focusing specifically on the case C = k(k + 1)/2 for some k ≥ 1. We give optimal de13 compositions for several congruence classes of N using the existence of some combinatorial designs. 14 We conclude with a comparison of the cost functions in unidirectional and bidirectional WDM rings. 15 16

Traffic Grooming on Ring networks
In traffic grooming several low rate traffic (requests) can be combined into a high bandwidth wavelength such that at any network link the combined traffic rate is no more than the available wavelength bandwidth. When more than one requests are combined to share wavelength bandwidth Add-Drop Multiplexors (ADM) are needed for opto-electronic conversion at nodes where traffic is added or dropped ...

HUANG, SHU. Traffic Grooming in Wavelength Routed Path Networks. (Under the direction of Assistant Professor Rudra Dutta). Recent increase in bandwidth and development of wavelength routing techniques has prompted the study of traffic grooming in wide area wavelength routed optical networks. These networks are widely expected to form the high speed high performance backbone networks of the futu...

The first part of this thesis is devoted to traffic grooming, which is a central problem in optical networks. It refers to packing low-rate signals into higher-speed streams, in order to improve bandwidth utilization and reduce the network cost. The objective is to minimize the number of Add-Drop Multiplexers (ADMs), which are devices that insert/extract low-rate traffic to/from a high-speed st...
متن کاملEffective Wavelength Assignment Algorithms for Optimizing Design Costs in SONET/WDM Rings
In high-speed wavelength-division-multiplexed synchronous optical network (SONET) ring networks, the terminal equipment costs associated with electronic multiplexing can be predominantly high. Placing a wavelength add–drop multiplexer (WADM) at each network node allows certain wavelengths to optically bypass the node without being electronically terminated. This approach can effectively reduce ...
متن کاملSurvivable Traffic Grooming in WDM Optical Networks
Traffic grooming, in which low-rate circuits are multiplexed onto wavelengths, with the goal of minimizing the number of add-drop multiplexers (ADMs) and wavelengths has received much research attention from the optical networking community in recent years. While previous work has considered various traffic models and network architectures, protection requirements of the circuits have not been ...
